Every Thursday The Lions Club of West Seattle meets each Thursday at the West Seattle Senior Center at 12:00. Following lunch and a brief business agenda, an invited guest is given one half hour to speak on an important community subject or interesting topic. If you are interested in attending one of our meetings, contact us by E-mail and you will receive an invitation from one of our members.
Quick Summary of Year 2008 to 2009 by Adrian Lawler As the newly elected president it becomes his duty to plan the initiatian dinner and ceremony leading to the installation of the officers. I was fortunate in having PZC Beverly Stevenson and PZC Nancy Sorensen assist in the installation. Along with the formal proceeding I felt it was necessary to have entertainment to add happiness and joy to the evening so I hired a magician to entertain us.
I wanted to advertise our Lions Club more and I felt we should again have a float in the West Seattle HiYu parade. One of our new members, Brett Ottley, supported the purchase of two 6 foot plastic Lions logos which Dick Barnecut and I mounted on either side of his pick-up truck. On July 19 we drove the length of California Ave. and let people know that Lions Club was well and active.
In August we had our summer picnic at the home of Moe and Bonnie Beerman. To our sadness Moe passed away shortly after.
October was the month for our Octoberfest dinner with good attendance, good music and dancing. In November we repeated our community dinner started by PP Jimie Martin.
The Christmas dinner was postponed twice because of snowstorms and was finally held at the Kenny Retirement Home on Jan.10. We had piano and singing to make a wonderful evening. February was a successful Valentines day dinner at the Senior Center.
March was a tragic month! My wife,Mary and I had a auto accident that left me unable to carry out my duties for about two months. After recovery I was able to finish out the year and I would pronounce it a good and active year.
